Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Rinki Bhuyan Sarma on 21.06.2022,Tuesday filed a civil defamation case of Rs 100 crore against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at the Civil Judge Court, Kamrup (Metro), Guwahati. The AAP leader Sisodia claimed in a press conference on June 4 that the Assam government had allocated agreements to the chief minister’s wife’s firms and the son’s business partner to supply PPE kits above the market rate at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the contrary ,Rinki Bhuyan Sarma’s lawyer Padmadhar Nayak said they are hoping that the matter will be listed on Wednesday and they will proceed after that.Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier mention that he will take legal action against Sisodia In his clarification after the AAP leader’s allegations.
The Assam CM had said, “At a time when the entire country was facing the worst pandemic in more than 100 years, Assam hardly had any PPE kits. My wife took the courage to come forward and donated around 1,500 PPE kits free of cost. The government had to pay the price for saving lives. It didn’t take a single penny.”
Reacting to the accusations of irregularities in the supply of PPE kits, Sarma said,” the PPE kits were gifted to the government and his wife’s company did not raise any bills for the same.”Reacting to Hemanta Biswa Sarma, Sisodia had shared a bill addressed to JCB Industries from NHM-Assam Mission Director S Lakshmanan and said, “Hon’ble Chief Minister Himanta Biswa ji! Your wife’s contract to buy 5000 kits at Rs 990/- in the name of JCB Industries. – Per kit ? Tell me, is this paper false? Isn’t it corrupt to give tender purchase orders to your wife’s company as health minister?”
Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Rinku Bhuyan Sarma had already issued a clarification on Sisodia’s allegations,yet he didn’t stop and continuously kept on putting allegations against her. “In the first week of the pandemic, Assam did not have a single PPE kit available. Taking cognizance of this, I reached out to a business acquaintance and with a lot of effort transported around 1500 PPE kits to NHM. Later, I sent my CSR Wrote to the NHM to accept it as part of it. I didn’t take a single penny from the supplies. I have always been transparent about my belief in giving back to society, irrespective of my husband’s political status,” Rinki Bhuyan Sarma said.
