
Shocking news for Android users ! Leading mobile security testing platform, Appknox reports that 75% of India’s Android apps contain security risks. Appknox, titled “Evidence-based Insights – India’s Top 100 Android Mobile Apps tested for Cybersecurity” creates a big question among Android users, especially in India. According to Statista, in 2022, there are over 6 billion people with mobile devices in the world.
The research found that some of the most prominent Indian apps lag even the most basic security checks. 79% of the apps were affected by network security misconfiguration, while 78% lacked sufficient code obfuscation. Insufficient obfuscation might lead to threat actors decompiling or reverse-engineering the code.Further, 42% of the apps had insufficient transport layer protection, which happens when data is sent from the mobile app to the server over unsecured channels.
According to Forbes, India is now the number one country globally in the number of apps installed and usage per month.As per a report published by Statista, as of January 2022, there were approximately 142,368 apps in the Google Play store with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. In total, 1.44 million apps had a rating and a further 2.13 million apps in the Google Play store had less than three user ratings.Out of the 2,976,112 apps on Google Play, more than 157,313 are from Indian publishers, with Meesho, Hotstar, Flipkart, Shopsy, and PhonePe, among others being the most downloaded apps from Indian publishers.
