Huge quantities of brown sugar, heroin and opium of worth over Rs 3 crore in the international market have been seized in Assam’s Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Guwahati and eight people have been arrested.

Police in Golaghat district seized around 1.23 kg of brown sugar worth around Rs 1.85 crore in the international market and with that found mobile handsets, hidden inside a four-wheeler, in the Barpathar area. They arrested four people in this connection. All the four accused were produced before a local court and sent to judicial custody.

On the other hand, a joint team of Assam Police and central reserve police force (CRPF) seized 208 grams of heroin from a vehicle at Dilapi under Bokajan police station in Karbi Anglong district and arrested two persons in this connection. The police said, “The heroin kept in 16 soap boxes was hidden in the lining of the vehicle’s door. The vehicle was travelling from Dimapur in Nagaland.”

The Government Railway Police had arrested two persons from Bihar with an amount of opium worth around Rs 1.4 crore from Guwahati station. Officer in-charge of GRP,Prasenjit Das said, “the consignment was brought from Dimapur and was en route to Bihar. Police caught the accused while they were moving in the station suspiciously.”
