India to provide Myanmar's Navy its first submarine

India will provide a kilo class submarine INS Sindhuvir to the Myanmar Navy and this will be the first submarine of the neighbouring country.
 
 
Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said the decision was part of a commitment to help build capacity and self-reliance in neighboring countries.
 
 
Srivastava further said that cooperation in the maritime domain is a part of India's enhanced engagement with Myanmar.
 
 
It may be mentioned that the submarine has been modernized by the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Vizag before handing over.
