Union Consumer Affairs Minister and LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan has passed away at a hospital in the national capital on Thursday.
The veteran political leader, hailing from Bihar, was in hospital for the last few weeks and had recently undergone heart surgery at a hospital in Delhi.
His son Chirag Paswan confirmed the development, as he tweeted in Hindi, "Papa, now you are no more, but I know that wherever you are you will be with me. Miss you, Papa."
Soon after his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter condoling Paswan's demise and said it's a personal loss for him.
“I am saddened beyond words. There is a void in our nation that will perhaps never be filled. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji’s demise is a personal loss. I have lost a friend, valued colleague and someone who was extremely passionate to ensure every poor person leads a life of dignity," he tweeted.
Apart from according a state funeral to the Union minister, the national flag will fly at half-mast in Delhi and capitals of all states and union territories on Friday as a mark of respect, the Home Ministry has announced.
