On Monday, the cabinet of Karnataka government decided to soon promulgate an ordinance against cow slaughter in the state.
According to sources, the ordinance will be sent “within a day” to the governor to ask for his approval and take effect immediately after being ratified by him.
The BJP-led government was forced to take the ordinance route as the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2020, passed by the legislative assembly earlier in the month in the winter session, did not win the approval of the council as JD(S) backed out in the last minute
Earlier a law was already passed in Karnataka to ban slaughter of cows till the age of 13 years but now this new ordinance will extend this ban to cow of all ages.
