The Supreme Court of India has advised Nagaland Lokyukta Uma Nath Singh to voluntarily step down from the post in context of the spate of the controversies the former high court chief justice has been involved in.

An SC bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde suggested the Lokyukta’s counsel saying it is better to give up the post rather than demeaning himself in public.

The Nagaland Government has sought removal of the Lokyukta, alleging various acts of impropriety and unjustified personal demands by him. The Lokyukta has continued to work online from delhi stating the outbreak of pandemic as the reason even though the chief secretary did not approve of this.
