Amid protest by the opposition alleging under-reporting of COVID deaths , Kerala's communist government decided to include 7,000 more victims of the pandemic in its official death list. The addition would take the state’s Covid-19 death toll from 26,000 to 33,000, as on Saturday. While the state govt has admitted that the state’s Covid-19 deaths were being under-reported, health minister Veena George denied the opposition’s allegation that it was deliberate. The minister had announced that the department would publish the updated list in three days in the last assembly session. This practice was criticised by health experts and opposition parties because the board allegedly didn’t include a large number where the patients had tested negative for Covid-19 after being infected.
